Wind Village
"2018-Tianhua Cup" National University Architectural Design Competition | 2018 | Hangzhou, Zhejiang
The competition theme, "Places 2048," explores the evolution of future spaces and architecture. With the increasing population density, urban housing land is becoming increasingly scarce. The ongoing expansion of cities continues to encroach on agricultural land. This transitionary development has further degraded the quality of farmland, and the resources for arable land are becoming increasingly limited. In the future, considering the encroachment of residential land on land resources, concepts such as urban folding and mobile cities will be employed to reduce the ecological impact of housing on villages and farmlands, thereby alleviating land pressure. This gives rise to a new, eco-friendly, and efficient community model. By transforming housing on agricultural land, residential units are extended into the sky, forming foldable, movable villages. Driven by the sea breeze, each housing unit can move and follow a path based on the seasonal variations of wind direction and intensity along the coast. During different seasons, these units can be freely combined and reconfigured. This allows for interaction and exchange between people for both production and daily life, representing a new, low-carbon agricultural method of the future. This model strengthens neighborhood communication and cooperative interaction, adapting to the trends of future digitalized and community-oriented societies.
