Transformable Elytra

This project is a transformable building. It starts from the basic form of rotation of elytra of beetles. Through changing the way of rotating and the mode of single basic sheet, the research tries to find out different spaces by transforming.
It shows the dual nature of structure. When the structure is open, it could be a festival site. While it is close, it could be a theater or a music hall. The forms can change obviously.
It also shows the dual nature of architectural components. The wall, the floor and the walk way can switch between each other. The curve wall and walkway provide the possibility for dual nature.
The picture below shows the overlook visual angle of the inter space. The center is emphasized by the shell structure and circle walkway. The walkway is also the auditorium of the center stage. In this stage, the axis is rotated by zero degree and the moving structural core is at its highest position. Meanwhile, the building is closed with only three entries underneath each shell. The shell and walkway are responsible for the most gravity load.
